ChannelPorts are a leading customs clearance agent in the UK. For nearly 45 years, the company has kept consignments moving quickly and efficiently through the Port of Dover and via the Channel Tunnel.

Why move to the Cloud?

FMIS Fixed Asset Management software has helped the company to track and manage its asset register for several years. Following a change to the company’s IT, Managing Director Paul Wells decided to move the software across to the FMIS Cloud.

Paul explained the decision, “Moving our software to the cloud had two big benefits for ChannelPorts. Cloud hosting offers a much simpler solution for us where we do not need to manage any IT infrastructure and FMIS Cloud offers us a secure environment to store our data”.

GDPR compliant

The introduction of GDPR has had a big impact on how data is processed in the UK and internationally for any companies working with personally identifiable data for EU citizens and residents. One of the key constraints of the GDPR is that data is not passed outside the EU except under specific circumstances.

The FMIS Cloud data centre is located near London and so all data is hosted locally in the UK and not passed outside the EU.

A simpler solution

One of the great benefits of cloud-based applications is the simplicity they offer, both in terms of deployment and maintenance. ChannelPorts were able to transfer FMIS Fixed Assets from their hardware to the FMIS Cloud in a matter of days and it was all done remotely, so there was no need for expensive site visits.
